How do you clean and look after your massage chair?

Knowledge

Just as any other piece of equipment, when buying a massage chair, it’s worth knowing how to keep your equipment running smoothly and looking like new for as long as possible. If you already have one at home or are waiting for it to be delivered, find out what to do and what to avoid when enjoying your massage chair. What should you do and how often should you clean it? Paweł answers these as well as some other questions. We invite you to watch and read.

How to clean your massage chair?

Organic leather used in most of the massage chairs is of the proper thickness, can withstand the operation of the massaging arms stretching it, can handle infrared heating perfectly and is properly reinforced against abrasion. In order to keep such upholstery clean, all you need to do is to use a cleaner which you will find in the set prepared by us for cleaning and protecting leather upholstery of massage chairs. The cleaning action of this product is based on chemical softening of accumulated dirt, so don’t scrub the leather surface, just wait for the agent to react with the dirt.

Brief guide on how to clean the massage chair:

  1. Apply cleaner to the stain.
  2. Wait – the cleaner softens the accumulated dirt.
  3. After a while, gently wipe off the stained area.
  4. Protect chair’s upholstery with care product.

In addition to upholstery made of eco leather, some models also have textile elements, especially around the hand and foot massagers. These are equipped with a zip, so they can easily be detached and washed.

Massage chair upholstery care

You’ll be able to make the leather shine, look beautiful and keep it protected from dirt by applying a massage chair upholstery protector. Its protective effect is based on the creation of an invisible barrier that stops everyday dirt. What’s more, it delays the penetration of aggressive substances such as salt, acidic compounds from e.g. human sweat, dyes from fabrics such as denim.

The most common causes of servicing

Besides proper care, it’s also worth taking care of the massage chair through proper use. Few people realise, for example, that the most vulnerable part of the massage chair is the footrest. To ensure that it works flawlessly and doesn’t get damaged, you should wait until it returns to its original position after the massage. Only then can you stand on it and get off the massage chair safely. It’s worth mentioning that this is one of the main causes of service calls, which can be avoided through proper use.

One of the more common reasons for contacting a service technician is also doubts about the operation of the airbags. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, you have to wait a long time for it to start – these are the problems most often reported. The truth is, however, that this is most often not related to the malfunctioning of the massage chair at all. This is because once the chair has started up, it’s not the case that everything kicks in straight away. It’s a specially programmed cycle in which each movement of the massager and airbags takes its turn and alternates. It’s therefore worth waiting to find out whether the airbags are working, and if you have any doubts about whether they are working correctly, you can contact a service technician.

While we are still on the subject of using the chair properly, before your first massage it’s worth checking whether the correct distance from the wall has been maintained behind the chair. This will prevent damage to both the chair and the wall, where stains or scratches may appear. This applies especially to models that recline. Massage chairs with the Zero Wall feature move away from the wall automatically when they recline, so leaving space behind them is not necessary.

Repairing the massage chair yourself

Self-repairs carried out without consultation are fraught with the risk of damaging the massage chair even further. It’s not a piece of equipment that everyone knows about, how it’s built or how it should work. It also comes with moving parts, the repair of which can involve a risk of injury. That’s why it’s a good idea to consult someone who deals with it on a daily basis and knows what to do if you find any problems or faults. So if you’re not sure whether your chair is working properly or if you have noticed a change in the way the massage is performed, contact the retailer or consult a service technician, who will certainly know what to do in such a situation. Frequently, minor malfunctions can be repaired on your own following a telephone consultation.

What you can do yourself, on the other hand, is occasionally check the fabric securing the back massager. It can happen that after using the massage chair for some time, the zip on this material comes undone and blocks the massager. To prevent this, you can look under the cushion after a few massages and check if the zipper is closed.

Observing the above rules will protect your massage chair from malfunctions, preserve its appearance for years to come and enable you to enjoy relaxing massage without any problems. And if you have any further questions or thoughts after reading this article, feel free to contact us.

Paul, what kind of upholstery do massage chairs have?

Mainly synthetic leather, sometimes natural leather, fabric and other parts are aluminium or plastic. Let me explain.

Most of the massage chairs we offer are upholstered in a fine quality synthetic leather. It is an intentional choice because it is better adapted to the work massage chairs do, like heating or stretching. It is environmentally friendly and better value for money.

So, you can also get chairs in natural leather?

In premium models which are produced on demand in Spain, we can choose the leather and the exacT colour. The difference will be tangible for connoisseurs – especially with the way it feels. Alternatively, we can also get these chairs in a cloth fabric.

For some massage chairs in leather upholstery, there is also a fabric finish on specific parts of the chair, especially those responsible for air massage. It gives it a cosy-feeling.

How do you clean the upholstery?

There are cleaning products for natural or synthetic leather, which you can use to clean and protect the upholstery. It is better not to use products with alcohol in the ingredients, sometimes just soap and water will be enough.

Some of the fabric is often removable by a zip, so it can be put in the washing machine.
For the plastic and aluminium parts just use a cloth with products suitable for all surfaces.

OK, I understand now and do you have any more advice?

Yes, an important tip is to use a stain protection liquid for upholstery and avoid wearing clothes which might mark the material, like dark jeans for instance. We also suggest that you put your glass of red wine down before you start and recline the chair.
