Own programme memory and personal settings in massage chairs

Knowledge

The massage chair market is growing at an impressive rate, with the capabilities of today’s models surpassing those of 3-4 years ago. Manufacturers are competing with each other by offering users increasingly advanced functions and technologies, thanks to which we can experience an increasingly personalised massage. Undoubtedly, these include the ability to create own programmes, as well as the memory of personal settings in massage chairs. But how do they work and what are the differences between these features? You will find the answers in the article below.

Personal programmes – full control over your massage session

The own programme memory (interchangeably called personal / individual programmes) is a function that allows the user of the massage chair to create and save custom, individual massage cycles. This means that the massage chair can remember and save all the actions you perform during a massage session. This includes switching between programmes and modes, starting and stopping additional functions, and setting all the chair’s parameters.

An example of an own programme might look like the following: you select a specific automatic programme, which you switch to manual mode after 3 minutes, e.g. point kneading in the lumbar region. You then adjust the massage and activate additional functions such as back heating or foot massage rollers. After a few minutes, turn off the rollers and switch to the next automatic programme, where you adjust the parameters as you wish. When you decide that you want to end the massage, you can save it in your personal programme memory.

The essence of the personal programmes is that the massage chair will remember the exact time you performed a particular action and will be able to repeat the entire massage cycle in the future (as long as you save it as your own programme). In this way, you can create a new programme to suit your individual preferences and easily run it during subsequent massage sessions. This is because, once saved, it will be available in the list of personal programmes until it is deleted. At the beginning of your massage chair adventure, this function may seem complicated and not necessarily necessary. However, as time goes by and the use of the massage chair becomes part of the daily routine, the ability to completely personalise the massage and recreate it unchanged can prove to be a huge advantage of the massage chair.

Which massage chairs offer the option of creating personal programmes? How many such programmes can I save in the chair’s memory?

The ability to create and save your own massage programmes is a rather unique feature that few massage chairs have. In our range these include:

Personal settings memory – quick access to favourite parameters

A far more common option in massage chairs is personal settings memory. This is a more general function that saves the settings of the user’s favourite parameters, but unlike personal programmes, it does not create an entirely new massage programme. The user using the personal settings memory therefore has to select one of the preset automatic programmes or the manual mode, and the chair will automatically adjust it to the stored preferences.

Personal settings can include:

  • the massage technique (e.g. kneading, tapping, Shiatsu);
  • massage intensity (applies to chairs with 3D or higher);
  • extent of massage (e.g. upper parts, lower parts, whole body);
  • the speed and width of the massage arms;
  • zones and strength of airbags;
  • the angle of the backrest and footrest;
  • other functions, e.g. heating, foot / calf massage rollers, etc.

Importantly, the stored settings will accompany the user throughout the massage session and will not change during, unless required by a specific automatic programme. In addition, in order to run a programme or mode with saved settings in the future, it must be selected from a list which, depending on the massage chair, includes between 2 and 12 personal settings memories.

In brief:

  • Personal programmes are massage sequences created and saved by the user that can be played back in their entirety.
  • The personal settings memory is the storage of individual user preferences adapted to an existing selected automatic programme or manual mode.

Advanced settings personalisation in Japanese Fujiiryoki massage chairs

The most advanced personal settings personalisation is found in Fujiiryoki’s Japanese massage chairs. The JP4000, like the JP3000 before it, offers a personal settings memory that includes: the result of the AI body scan, manual adjustment of 8 key massage points on the spinal line, the favourite position of the massage chair and the setting parameters of all airbags. Most importantly, however, in Fujiiraoki’s case, the personal settings apply to all programmes and modes that the massage chair offers.
