It seems more than certain that all of us used to have trouble falling asleep at some point. Wriggling in bed, haunting thoughts about the passing day, detailed analysis of upcoming important meetings, and finally even an attempt to count sheep. Sounds familiar? One tough night can happen to anyone, but if it starts happening again and again, it’s time you did something about it. Recent scientific research on sleep disorders has shown that relaxation, rest and massage can help. Read more about how massage sessions in a massage chair affect sleep.
What causes insomnia?
Insomnia is associated with total lack of sleep, but this doesn’t actually happen. Insomnia most often manifests itself in problems with falling asleep, frequent and premature waking up and long periods of sleeplessness. It can last for several days and can stem from an unusual event, such as a changing of time zones, jet lag, or it can extend over a few weeks or even more than a month, in which case it is considered chronic insomnia.
The causes of chronic insomnia are usually very complex and concern numerous aspects of everyday life. They are most often linked to fast pace of life, lack of time for rest and chronic stress. Difficulty in falling asleep can result from overexcitement or excessive somatic tension. It is a state of constant vigilance, when we do not rest and are constantly ready to act. Caffeine consumption, intensive mental activity, physical or emotional fatigue also fuel this condition. Another cause of insomnia may be inadequate sleep hygiene. Improper lighting, noise, frequent use of smartphones or watching TV just before bedtime all influence its quality.
A little bit of statistics
In addition to a well-balanced diet and regular physical activity, a good night’s sleep is the cornerstone of a healthy life. Sleep disorders, which include not only insomnia, but also excessive sleepiness and sleep apnoea, affect more than 45% of people around the world. However, about 15%-20% of the population suffers from insomnia alone. Poland is at the top of the European list, every second Pole has problems with falling asleep. This problem is frequently underestimated, and insomnia can and must be effectively dealt with.
How to fall asleep, sleep and rest with the assistance of a massage chair
Experts on sleep and doctors emphasize the importance of ensuring good, restorative sleep even during the day. Besides maintaining proper sleep hygiene, healthy nutrition and practising sports, which has huge impact on falling asleep, it is advisable to take advantage of a massage in a massage chair. The influence of massage on insomnia and sleep quality was studied by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia. Scientific research has confirmed that the relaxation program developed by the Spanish brand Keyton prevents insomnia.
The program prepares you for evening rest and a night’s sleep exceptionally well. It stimulates the essential points on the body to remove fatigue and ensures complete relaxation. The gentle movement of the massage arms allows you to sleep calmly, and what’s more, it also makes you feel better the next day.
An evening ritual on a massage chair
The Keyton massage chair relaxation program is ideal for evening sleep preparation, but it is not the only one. If you find it hard to fall asleep, you can also use the relaxation programs in our other massage chairs, where the equally gentle movement of the massage arms relaxes your muscles, soothes and calms you down. It is crucial to choose programs with lower intensity of pressure, where the speed of movement is also relatively lower. Select any position and angle of the chair, keeping in mind that the more you lie down, the more you increase the intensity of the massage. And in order to increase the effect of the massage in the massage chair, it is worth creating your ritual and repeat it every day. So put the phone down, turn off the TV, you can read the book if you like, but slowly calm down before going to sleep. Turn off the light, turn on some relaxing music and sit in the massage chair. Start the program, close your eyes and let the massage arms do the work. Remember that after one massage the effect may be negligible, but with regular use of the chair you can expect an improvement in your sleep quality and … your everyday well-being.
