Most people associate massage session with lying down. And that’s no surprise, as this is how it is typically performed in massage parlours. However, traditionally understood horizontal position isn’t always a requirement for a massage. In massage chairs, massage is performed in several different positions. Naturally, there are chairs that perform massages in a lying position, models that do not recline and ones in which the only movable part is the footrest. Read the article below and find out how massage chairs recline and how this affects the massage itself.
Let’s start with massage chairs that don’t recline and which offer the massage in sitting position only. These are compact models that provide basic massage and, due to the fact that they don’t recline, can fit easily into any room. Such a chair (for example Massaggio Piccolo available here, at Rest Lords) is usually the only choice for those who have limited space at their disposal. Another example are chairs with the non-reclining backrest but the retractable footrest. The back is thus massaged in a sitting position, but you can stretch out your tired legs after a long day and enjoy a relaxing, pleasantly relieving massage. Massagio Ricco is equipped with an extendable footrest with adjustable tilt angle.
This position is frequently encountered in massage chairs. The horizontal – reclined position, with the backrest lowered down and the footrest with leg massage raised up. Of course, you can halt the reclining at any point, choosing the most comfortable massage position for you. However, remember that the more reclined the position, the more intensive the massage. The Massaggio Conveniente, for example, can be reclined to that position. It is also possible to adjust the extension of the footrests, which makes it possible to adjust the chair to your height.
At this point we should also pay attention to the ‘flat’ position available in the Fujiiryoki JP2000. This is also a horizontal position, but the construction of the chair has been specially shaped so that the body assumes a sleep-like position. Reclining the massage chair in this way further increases the feeling of comfort and relaxation of the body during long massage sessions.
Considered to be the most comfortable massage position that appears definitely most often in massage chairs. Zero Gravity means a natural body position that resembles reclining as in a rocking chair, where the knees are raised to the height of the heart and the angle between the torso and thighs is about 125 degrees. This position is said to have been scientifically confirmed by NASA researchers (hence its name), which we accept with a sceptic smile :-) Nevertheless, this doesn’t change the fact that the massage chair reclining into the Zero Gravity position allows you to massage your back muscles thoroughly. The massage is also highly enjoyable and extremely relaxing, and the joints get the maximum relief possible. Until now, the Zero Gravity position has appeared only in the most sophisticated and advanced chairs, such as the Massaggio Stravagante 2 or Esclusivo 2, but there are already compact models emerging, such as the Massaggio Bello 2, which feature this very technology.
As you can see, each of the reclining methods has its advantages. Everything depends on your needs, availability of space and individual preferences.
